There are great alternatives to buying real leather:
1. Barkcloth: Barkcloth is a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric, so named because it has a rough surface like that of tree bark. Usually made of densely woven cotton fibers, used in home furnishings, such as curtains, drapery, upholstery, and slipcovers.
2. Cork: The oak-bark derivative distresses with age like the real deal would, without the bulk or heft.
3. Chenille: A heavy fabric woven with chenille cord; used in rugs and bedspreads, commonly manufactured from cotton, but can also be made using acrylic, rayon and olefin.
4. Glazed Cotton: Embossed, glazed, stretched, and buffed to a shine, cotton canvas can bear an uncanny resemblance to genuine leather. It's also water-resistant, requires minimal care and, in some cases, machine-washable.
5. Crepe: A soft woven fabric, of various fineness; originally made from carded wool or worsted yarn, but is now often made from either cotton, or synthetic fibre
6. Recycled PET Polyester: Dinamica, a faux suede made from 100 percent recycled PET, is typically used in the furniture and automotive industries.
7. Degradable Polyurethane: Not only has the part-recycled material garnered ISO certification for meeting specific environmental goals, but it's also degradable and solvent-free.
